Bob Muth Memorial Scholarship Announced

Doug and Kelli Schieffer donate $100,000 to start the Bob Muth Memorial Scholarship

The Yankton School District Alumni Association is honored to announce the establishment of the Bob Muth Memorial Scholarship thanks to a generous gift of $100,000 from Doug and Kelli Schieffer.

Bob Muth was a Building Trades instructor, as well as a football and track and field coach, for over 25 years. Muth was an integral part in the start of a strong Career and Technical Education program at Yankton High School. He was also an advocate for technical post-high school education opportunities for his students.

Doug Schieffer, a 1993 Yankton High School graduate, attributes much of his career success to the guidance from Muth, “Bob Muth took the time and energy to explain a career path of construction he thought might benefit me. At the time I had no idea of the career paths construction could provide, nor did I understand what tech schools were.” Because of this guidance, Doug and his wife Kelli (Larsen), a 1996 Yankton High School graduate, wanted to start a scholarship in memory of Bob Muth to continue his legacy.

Details on the Bob Muth Memorial Scholarship are still being worked on by the Schieffers along with Yankton School District administration and Bob’s son, Brady Muth, who is currently a teacher and coach at Yankton High School. But there will be one main component: the scholarship will be for students planning to enter a two year or less school that offers career-focused programs.

Dr. Wayne Kindle, superintendent of Yankton School District, shares, “To honor an educator who has made a difference in a person’s life in this manner truly reflects the profound impact of this wonderful profession. The generosity and thoughtfulness of Doug and Kelli will provide opportunities for many students attending Yankton High School who choose to further their education at a technical school. We thank them for remembering Mr. Muth and the difference he made in their lives.”

Bob Muth impacted many lives in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.
