Opt-Out Info: Absentee Voting - Messenger Service
In the event of confinement because of sickness or disability, a qualified voter may apply in writing and obtain an absentee ballot by authorized messenger. An authorized messenger delivers the ballot from the Yankton School Administration Building to the qualified voter and then delivers the marked ballot back to the Yankton School Administration Building.
Any application for a ballot by an authorized messenger must be received by the person in charge of the election before 3:00 pm the day of the election (February 11, 2020).
* Note: Work is not considered confinement. Employers are required under law to allow an employee up to 2 hours to be absent to vote (SDCL 12-3-5).
Step 1: Click here to download the application.
Step 2: If unable to download or no access to a computer, an application may be mailed to the voter or hand delivered by the designated messenger.
Step 3: The completed application is returned to the Yankton School Administration Building during business hours.
Step 4: An official ballot is given to the authorized messenger for delivery to the confined voter.
Step 5: The authorized messenger returns the voted ballot to the Yankton School Administration Building in time for the person in charge of the election to get the ballot to the correct voting precinct by 7:00 pm election day (February 11, 2020).
