Forward 2029 Timeline of Events

In October 2023, about 900 members of the Yankton Community (including parents, patrons, students, support staff, and teachers) participated in an online survey.  The participants shared their thoughts regarding the Forward 2029 focus areas – facilities, funding, school safety, student achievement, and family & community engagement along with questions focused on communication, school environment, quality of education, and school support within the Yankton School District. 

In November 2023, Yankton School District staff and members of the community attended Collaborative Strategic Planning Session 1. During this session, the online survey results were shared during a Special School Board Meeting. Following the Special School Board Meeting, the Steering Committees identified strengths, challenges, and needs to be addressed in Forward 2029 to continue to achieve the Mission and Belief Statements of the Yankton School District. Steering Committee members included administrators, teachers, parents and community members, and a school board member. 

In December 2023 and January 2024, the Yankton School District Administrators met to develop visioning statements based on the goals and objectives established during the Collaborative Strategic Planning Session 1.

The Steering Committees met on February 13, 2024, to develop a 5-year action plan to carry out the focus area goal. Committee members collaboratively wrote objectives and action items with target dates to ensure progress and implementation. 

The Forward 2029 Strategic Plan was presented at the May 13, 2024 and June 10, 2024 School Board meetings with final approval and board adoption on August 12, 2024. Implementation of the Forward 2029 Strategic Plan will begin with the 2024-2025 school year.
