Yankton H.S. musicians had a SUPERIOR day at South Dakota Regional Large Group Contest! ALL FIVE of our h.s. music ensembles earned Superior ratings for their performances! Congrats to all the musicians on all their efforts!!


Yankton Public Schools will not be in session from Thursday, April 17, through Monday, April 21. April 17 is a parent-teacher conference compensation day, and April 18 and April 21 are Easter Vacation days. School will resume on Tuesday, April 22.

The Introduction to Education class had a week packed full of educational leadership exposure. We had individual interviews with Mr. Dvoracek (YHS), Dr. Kindle, and Mr. Mitzel (Beadle). We were even spoiled to do some arts-n-crafts alongside some awesome first graders. Thank you!








Tennis had another successful outing with wins over SC Heelan and Vermillion. The Bucks will take on Mitchell and Brandon on Friday.


The Introduction to Education class hosted their 8th panel. This unit focused on leadership roles in education. We had an assistant principal (Streyle), an assistant activities director (Gross), a school board member (Carda), and a department head (Larson). We have GREAT leaders!

Buck Tennis had a good weekend in Rapid City. The Buck's dropped the first dual to RC Stevens and then rebounded in fine fashion to defeat RC Central, St. Thomas More, RC Christian, and Spearfish. This week the Bucks will face SC Heelan, Vermillion, Mitchell, and Brandon Valley!

Congratulations to the four band members selected to the 2025 South Dakota All State Band! Auditions were held in January. Based off their scores, students were selected for this prestigious honor. Isaac Petersen (clarinet), Alexander Henning (tenor sax), Davis Walsh (bass clarinet), Adeline Bobby (piano), along with their director, Gwen Wenisch, traveled to Watertown and rehearsed for three days with musicians from across the state.
The event concluded with an amazing concert Saturday afternoon. Congrats to these taleneted kids on an amazing accomplishment!!


Congratulations to Buck football player Matthew Sheldon on being named the SDFBCA 11AA Player of the Year! Your hard work, dedication, and talent have truly set you apart. Well deserved!


YHS Science Olympiad are state champs! The team received 13 first place finishes out of 23 events and will be headed to the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in May to compete at Nationals.

After all those steps, we celebrated in true island style- with a luau!🥥🌴👣






YHS orchestra students had a fantastic day at the Region I Solo and Ensemble Contest last Wednesday. There were seven students who received an "Excellent" (2) rating and two students who received a "Superior" (1) rating, the highest rating awarded at contest! Congrats, string players!!

Coach Schuring will be holding a player/parent soccer meeting on March 24. All students interested in playing Gazelles Soccer next fall should plan to attend.
